College Football Week 2 Review

Week Two of the college football season was just as exciting as the first. In this past week, history was made at the University of Michigan. The Wolverines hosted their first night game ever at The Big House, defeating Notre Dame in one of the most exciting games this year. The only three teams in the Top 25 that lost this week were #23 Penn State, who lost at home to #3 Alabama, #16 Mississippi State who lost at Auburn and #21 Missouri who lost at Arizona State.

Top Three Performances by Team or Player:
1. Oregon QB Darron Thomas- Thomas tied a school record Saturday when he threw six touchdowns against Nevada. He threw for 295 yards and also led his team in rushing yards with 81.
2. Michigan QB Denard Robinson- Robinson helped Michigan come back in one of the most thrilling games this year, throwing four touchdowns and running in one. Robinson threw for 338 yards and ran for another 108 yards in a 35-31 victory over Notre Dame.
3. South Carolina DE Melvin Ingram- The senior defensive end is known for his efforts on defense, but scored on a 68 yard run against Georgia. Ingram also came up big later in the game when he recovered a fumble and ran it back for the game clinching touchdown.

Top Three Disappointments by a Team Or Player:
1. Notre Dame- The Fighting Irish are 0-2 after losses to South Florida and Michigan. The Fighting Irish were up 24-7 going into the final quarter but still ended up losing the game. You have to feel bad for coach Brian Kelly after leaving Cincinnati to coach in South Bend.
2. Texas QB Garrett Gilbert- No one expected this kid to be as good as Colt McCoy, but he has played way below expectations. Last season he led Texas to a terrible 5-7 record and this year has not improved. He was eventually pulled from the game Saturday, after throwing two interceptions vs BYU.
3.Penn State- Penn State got whooped by Alabama last year, and this year they were supposed to make up for it with a win at home. That wasn't the case Saturday as the Nittany Lions lost again and failed to even score a touchdown.

Game of the Week:
The first ever night game at Michigan Stadium will be a great memory for the Wolverines. Michigan trailed 24-7 going into the fourth and final quarter, just in time for quarterback Denard Robinson to click in. After two early touchdown passes by Robinson in the fourth quarter, Michigan trailed Notre Dame 21-24 with under two minutes to play. With 1:12 left in the game, Robinson connected with his running back Vincent Smith on a screen pass for 21 yards that would give Michigan a 28-24 lead. Notre Dame marched back down the field and with :30 seconds left reclaimed the lead when quarterback Tommy Rees connected with Theo Riddick for 29 yards. Michigan wasn't done finished yet, because Robinson connected with wide receiver Jeremy Gallon on a 64 yard pass with under ten seconds left, putting Michigan in field goal range. With one last play left before having to kick a game tying field goal, Robinson threw a jump ball in the endzone that was caught by Roy Roundtree to give Michigan the victory. Hail to the Victors!

Next Week's Five Intriguing Matchups:
1. #1 Oklahoma vs #5 Florida State- Two of the top teams in the country square off in Tallahassee Saturday as EJ Manuel and the Seminoles get set to face Landry Jones and the Oklahoma Sooners.
2. #17 Ohio State vs Miami- The two teams in the country with the worst reputation play each other Saturday. After barely beating Toledo last week, can the Buckeyes come out strong and defeat Jacory Harris and the Hurricanes?
3. #15 Michigan State vs Notre Dame- Will Notre Dame pick up it's first win of the season against Sparty, or will the Fighting Irish fall to 0-3?
4. #3 LSU vs #25 Mississippi State- Can Mississippi State recover from an upset by Auburn, and pull an upset of their own vs LSU?
5. #22 Arizona State vs Illinois- The Sun Devils face off against the Fighting Illini this Saturday, in their first game being ranked in the Top 25 this season.

NFL Week 1 Predictions

Saints vs Packers: 37-30 Packers
The defending champs will start the season off 1-0 when they defeat the Saints on Thursday night. The quarterback duel of Aaron Rodgers vs Drew Brees should be a good one to watch. The reason the Packers have an edge in this one over the Saints is because of their defense, and the fact that this game is being played in Green Bay.

Giants vs Redskins: 27-13 Giants
Even though both teams did not have great off-seasons, the Giants are still the better of the two. Rex Grossman is not a legitimate starting quarterback in the NFL, and the Redskins will learn that on Saturday. The Giants offense will be too much for the Redskins' defense to handle.

Falcons vs Bears: 24-20 Falcons
Both teams are very talented, but Atlanta's offense will eventually take over this game. After adding another threat in Julio Jones, the Falcons not only have one of the best running games in the league but one of the best passing games as well.

Bengals vs Browns: 20-17 Browns
With Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco out, and Andy Dalton and AJ Green in, it will be interesting to see how the Bengals offense does this year. Peyton Hillis will not have as good as a year as he did last year but will start off the season strong against a weak Bengals defense.

Bills vs Chiefs: 28-13 Chiefs
The Chiefs were great last season as Jamaal Charles emerged as one of the best running backs in the league. He will get more carries this season, which means more yards and more touchdowns. The Bills on the other hand, were not great last season, and should have a similar turnout this year.

Eagles vs Rams: 38-24 Eagles
The Rams will be good this season, but the Eagles' offense is just way too talented. The Eagles will look to make a statement this week, showing everyone that they have what it takes to go to the Super Bowl.

Lions vs Bucs: 24-23 Bucs
Both teams are young, talented teams on the rise and should have decent seasons. The reason the advantage goes to the Bucs in this game is simply because they are playing at home. Stafford vs Freeman should be a great matchup at quarterback but Freeman has a slight edge over Stafford right now.

Titans vs Jaguars: 28-24 Titans
Chris Johnson will be playing in week one and will make an impact right away. Maurice Jones-Drew vs Chris Johnson will be a great matchup to watch, but the advantage goes to the Titans. The Jaguars do not have answers at quarterback and have a weak defense.

Steelers vs Ravens: 24-17 Ravens
The game is being played in Baltimore, which is a huge advantage for the Ravens. Both teams have spectacular defenses and very good running games. The game will be a thriller to watch, but the Ravens should pull out the victory.

Colts vs Texans: 35-21 Texans
Peyton Manning is hurt, but whether or not he plays is not the issue. This will be the year the Texans finally overtake the Colts as the leader of the AFC South. The Texans have one of the best offenses in the football with a top three wide receiver, a top three running back, and a top ten quarterback. On top of that, the game is being played in Houston so look for a barnburner in favor of the Texans.

Panthers vs Cardinals: 20-13 Cardinals
Larry Fitzgerald has finally found someone to throw him the ball in Kevin Kolb. The Cardinals will beat the Panthers at home, and Cam Newton will have a decent game.

Vikings vs Chargers: 27-17 Chargers
The Vikings have the best running back in the league, but the Chargers are overall a much better team. In fact, many experts are predicting the Chargers to finally make it to the Super Bowl. Of course we know that they always choke in the playoffs but that is besides the point. The Chargers have an explosive offense with Vincent Jackson back, and added some players to the defensive side.

Seahawks vs 49'ers: 23-17 49'ers
Classic unpredictable NFC West showdown. This game can be decided by a coin flip because you never know how each team will play every week. Frank Gore is healthy (for now), and that should be enough to give the 49'ers a win at home over the Seahawks.

Jets vs Cowboys: 30-24 Jets
The Cowboys replaced their coach and cut half of their team this past year, while the Jets brought in two veterans wide receivers to help out Mark Sanchez. Both teams will bring explosiveness and energy to the game, but the Jets will come out on top.

Patriots vs Dolphins: 35-20 Patriots
The Patriots brought in a bunch of veteran players this season including Chad Ochocinco, Albert Haynesworth, and recently acquired Brian Waters. This could be the year they return to the Super Bowl, with Tom Brady and the offense ready to go. The Dolphins should be interesting to watch this year with Reggie Bush taking carries, but the Patriots will overpower Miami on Monday night.

Raiders vs Broncos:24-20 Raiders
The second Monday night game will be closer than the first, as the Raiders and Broncos square off in Denver. Darren McFadden should have another good season, while the Broncos have many questions to answer. Who will be playing quarterback in five weeks? Will Knowshown Moreno stay healthy? Is Von Miller a bust? Some of these questions will start to find answers after week one.

College Football Week 1 Review

The college football season kicked off this past week as teams across the nation showed us what is in store for this upcoming year. Although it is still too early to tell which teams will be playing in the national championship, and which player will be holding up the Heisman Trophy, there were definitely some teams and players that shined brighter than others. All of the teams in the top 25 won except #3 Oregon who was upset by #4 LSU, #14 TCU who was upset by Baylor, and #16 Notre Dame who was upset by South Florida.

Top Three Performances by Team or Player:

1. Robert Griffin III- RG3 had the game of his life this past weekend when he threw for over 350 yards and five touchdowns. Griffin helped lead his Baylor Bears over #14 TCU, handing them their first loss in over a year.

2. Kellen Moore- The Boise State Broncos defeated #19 Georgia Bulldogs at the Georgia Dome Saturday, making it the third straight year they have defeated a ranked team in week one. Moore had a spectacular game, passing for over 250 yards and three touchdowns.

3. Russell Wilson- In his first game for the Wisconsin Badgers, Wilson did not disappoint. Wilson threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, but also ran for 62 yards and a touchdown all in just three quarters of play. The Badgers pulled their starters early once the score read 51-3.

Top Three Disappointments by Team or Player:

1. Notre Dame- With expectations this season to finally be back in form, Notre Dame lost at home to South Florida. It was even more disappointing when starting quarterback Dayne Crist was relieved by backup Tommy Rees.

2.Oregon-Many people predicted the Ducks to be back in the championship game this season with LaMichael James and Darron Thomas returning to school. After a poor performance by the Oregon running backs, and a 13 point defeat to the LSU Tigers, it does not look good for the Ducks this year.

3. John Brantley- Although the Florida Gators defeated FAU 41-3 Brantley did not play well. He threw only one touchdown but got two passes intercepted. Brantley will never be as good as Tim Tebow, and he needs to get over that and just play smart football. 

Game of the Week:

#14 TCU vs Baylor

From start to finish, this game was absolutely thrilling. It was unbelievable watching Baylor give TCU it's first loss in over a year. Robert Griffin III played flawless, throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions. It was also interesting to watch how TCU's new quarterback, Casey Pachall, would play and whether or not he would fill Andy Dalton's shoes. The game looked finished at the end of the third quarter when Baylor was up 47-23 but TCU fought all the way back taking a 48-47 lead. In the final minute though, RG3 lead one last drive which set up a potential game winning field goal.

Next Week's Five Intriguing Matchups:

1. #12 South Carolina vs #19 Georgia: Can Marcus Lattimore and the Gamecocks put the Bulldogs in a 0-2 hole?

2. Michigan vs #16 Notre Dame: In the first night game in Michigan Stadium history, can Denard Robinson lead the Wolverines to victory over higher ranked Notre Dame?

3. Penn State vs #2 Alabama: Although last year's meeting was a blowout by the Tide, Penn State might give Alabama a run for it's money this year.

4. #20 Mississippi State vs #23 Auburn: Can Auburn defeat the Bulldogs after a close call this week?

5. #25USC vs Utah: The Trojans will not play in a bowl game this year but that does not mean they are bad. Quarterback Matt Barkley is one of the best in the country, so it should be interesting how he plays against Utah's great defense.

Should Baseball Add More Playoff Teams?

In my last sports related post, before my two month hiatus, I would like to discuss and lobby for a very important change that could help the game of baseball, and win back some fans.

Throughout the years, baseball is getting less and less popular. You could blame the long nine innings, you could blame the lag in between pitches and batters, you can blame the millions of TV breaks, or you can blame the fact that baseball is a non-contact sport (besides home plate collisions), and not many players are involved in every play.

One thing that can make baseball better and more interesting, would be to allow more teams into the postseason. While the NFL allows six from every conference, and the NHL and NBA allow eight, the MLB only allows four teams from each conference to play in the postseason.

With talent at an all time high, it is vital that we see more stars playing in October. A big reason why people don't watch baseball, is because once their team is eliminated, they don't really care. Let's say the MLB copied the  NFL format, and allowed two more teams to play. That means it isn't like the NBA where some OK teams make the playoffs, but the deserving teams like the NFL wild card teams do make it.

If you look at the current MLB standings today, there are 16 teams in the league with winning records. That is more than have of the league. Too bad only half of the 16 teams will play in the postseason. In the AL East where the Yankees and Red Sox have dominated for the past decade, it makes it tough for a young and emerging team like the Tampa Bay Rays to make the playoffs.

What about in the NL East with the Phillies, Mets, Nationals, Braves, AND Marlins all having teams with star power and a bright future.

In the NL Central you have the Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, and usually the Cubs all fighting for one playoff spot, and out west you have the World Series winning Giants, along with the Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Dodgers who have all been in the playoffs in the last five years. Sorry Padres, but after losing Adrian Gonzalez you guys have no talent.

Back in the AL Central, the Tigers, Twins, and White Sox are always battling, and this year you have the Indians back in the race. In the AL West it's always a toss up with the Rangers advancing to the World Series last year, and also the A's, Angels, and Mariners competing.

The point is, there are way too many talented teams in the league in this day and age, who are not playing in the playoffs. The MLB doesn't need to expand to eight teams like the NHL and NBA, but six teams per conference would be a thing I would like to see.

Also, with more teams in the playoffs, it makes it less likely for a super team to form. With more possibilities to make it to the offseason, players will be more loyal to their teams, and teams will be more fair to their managers.

Baseball used to be America's past time, and if you like at the definition "Past Time" it still is. America and the World have moved on to more exciting sports, like Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Tennis. Baseball can't help the fact that it is a slow paced, non contact sport (unless they make some rule changes), but seeing your team play on TV in October could definitely help.

Ricky Rubio To Play For The Minnesota Timberwolves Next Season

The Spanish superstar finally has decided to play overseas, after being drafted back in 2009. Ricky Rubio was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft and will now finally play in the NBA after a two year wait.

Being only 18 years old, Rubio decided to stay in Europe for two more years and play for Barcelona. Another big reason Rubio has finally decided to leave European Basketball was because his buy out from Barcelona has decreased substantially since 2009.

Rubio officially started playing professional basketball at only 14 years old, pretty much being the Freddy Adu of European Basketball. The Spanish point guard has drawn similarities to Pistol Pete Maravich for his quickness, ball-handling, and court vision.

Despite playing professional ball since 14, being drafted with the fifth pick of the NBA Draft, and winning the Player Of The Year award, Rubio's stats have not stood out.

Rubio has never averaged more than 11 points per game or six assists per game. A big reason to this could be the European style of play, or the fact that he plays close to only 22 minutes per game.

Last year with Barcelona, he had his worst season in four years. He only averaged 4.8 points per game, 4.1 assists per game, and shot 32% from the field. He also lost the starting point guard role on the team.

Back in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Rubio helped lead Spain to the Gold Medal game, but lost to the United States.

Still, Rubio has extraordinary upside and when you put him on the court next to NBA players, he will shine much brighter then with his European teammates. With rising stars like Kevin Love and Michael Beasley on the Timberwolves, Rubio's main job will be to get them the ball. Last year, Minnesota kept up well with scoring, but it was their defense that gave them the worst record in the league.

Rubio has also stated that he will wear No. 9 next season.

With Minnesota having the second pick in this year's draft, after having the lottery screw them over for the top pick, they will likely draft Derrick Williams.

Analyst are saying how Williams is the most athletic player in the draft, and could also have the most potential to break out and become a star. The only problem is that Williams plays Small Forward or Power Forward, which just happens to be the positions of Beasley and Love.

Next season, seeing Rubio, Love, Beasley, and possibly Williams will be very exciting. With a 17-65 record last season, the T-Wolves may not be back to playoff basketball just yet, but with some franchises having their best days behind them, the Wolves should be on the rise.

With the Lakers and Spurs both on their downfalls, the Clippers, Timberwolves, and Warriors could be the new faces of the Western Conference. With talent at an all time high though, every team needs to put in their full effort every night to have success.

Ricky Rubio will finally be coming to the NBA! Everyone is excited to see what the kid has in store.

Bruins Claim Lord Stanley's Cup

Last night, the Boston Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks to win the 2010-2011 Stanley Cup. The last time the Bruins hoisted The Cup was 39 years ago, when guys like Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito were skating around the rink.

This season the Bruins finished third place in the Eastern Conference with a 46-25-11 record. The Bruins also got a big welcome back from Tim Thomas, who after winning the Vezina Trophy in 2009, hit a rough patch last year and saw Tuukka Rask take his place as goalie. Thomas would go on to win the Conn Smythe Award, which for all you non-hockey fans is equivalent to winning Postseason MVP.

The Briuns needed 7 games, and one big road win to defeat the Canucks. After losing the first two games in Vancouver, the Bruins responded by winning the next two in Beantown. Then after another loss in Vancouver, and another win in Boston, the Bruins finally upset the Canucks at home by a score of 4-0.

The Vancouver Canucks did not play quality hockey in the Stanley Cup Finals. The lethal offense led by Ryan Kesler and the Sedin Brothers simply did not provide enough offense. Also goaltender Roberto Luongo, or as they call him now, LuBrongo (LeBron James reference), played terrible, having to be pulled from net multiple times.

Earlier in the postseason, the Boston Bruins defeated the Montreal Canadiens, coming back from a 0-2 defecit again,  the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

With Nathan Horton getting knocked out in Game One, due to a malicious hit by Aaron Rome, David Krejci led the Bruins offense with 23 points this postseason.

One thing that stands out with this Bruins team is that there is not much star power, but yet a bunch of really good players who hustle hard.

Obviously you have the two big guys Tim Thomas and 6'9 defender Zdeno Chara, but besides that nobody really stands out. There are a bunch of guys who hustle their butts off like Nathan Horton, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Michael Ryder, and 43 year old Marc Recchi.

The Bruins also got a lot of help from two youngsters, Brad Marchand, and Tyler Seguin who was actually the #2 pick in this year's draft. The Bruins were able to pick Seguin after a past trade with Toronto.

Despite going into a Game Seven, the Bruins dominated the Canucks. They lost one game in the last seconds and another in OT. All three Bruins' losses were by a one goal deficit. On the other hand, the Bruins won their games by a wide margin including 8-1, 5-2, 4-1, and 4-0 victories. In the series the Bruins outscored the Canucks 23-5, how that went seven games i don't know.

The Boston Bruins definitely deserved to win Lord Stanley's Cup more than the Vancouver Canucks, congrats to them!

Was The Miami Heat's Season A Success Or Failure?

Is a trip to the NBA Finals really considered a fail?

Looking back on the Miami Heat 2010-2011 season, was it really a failure? If you look at it with a championship or bust point of view, then yes, obviously it was a failure, but by advancing to the NBA Finals in just their first year, was that a success?

The Miami Heat, compiled a 58-24 record this season finishing second in the Eastern Conference. They also took care of the Los Angeles Lakers both times the teams met up. Once they reached the playoffs, the Heat defeated the Philadelphia 76'ers, the Boston Celtics, and the best team in the regular season, the Chicago Bulls.

From those achievements right there, it sounds like the Miami Heat had a pretty good season. In just their first year playing together, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James were able to reach the NBA Finals, and in doing so, knock off the other two best teams in their conference.

The reason everyone is criticizing the Heat though, is because the huge expectations they put on themselves.

"Not two, not three, not four not five, not six, not seven".

Those were the words that came out of LeBron's mouth when the big three were welcomed at American Airlines Arena.

James would continue after an applaud by the crowd, "And when I say that, I really believe".

Although Miami's slogan was "Yes We Did", after signing the big three, their championship run's motto was "No We Didn't".

Even though the Miami Heat didn't win this season, it could just be a stepping stone for the future. The Heat were able to adjust to their style of play early in the season, and after having a bad start were one of the most dominant teams in the NBA.

Now knowing how they play together, the Heat can quite possibly win the title next year, in fact they are already the favorites to win again.

Many people are also criticizing LeBron James, for disappearing in the NBA Finals, especially in the fourth quarter.

Former Jets OT Damien Woody tweeted best, "If you ask @KingJames (LeBron James) for a dollar, he'll only give u 75 cents, he never gives you the fourth quarter #Ouch !!!".

Had LeBron just played well, not even great, the Miami Heat could have, and should have won the title. Yes, Dirk Nowitzki was incredible, but when you have three all-stars playing together against one, it shouldn't be fair.

In the first five games of the series, James had only 11 combined points in the fourth quarter.

With that being said, next season if LeBron plays like the player he is, the Heat should be able the NBA Finals. I don't know if they will win seven, but by the time it is said and done, LeBron will have a ring, whether you like it or not.

If you look at it with a championship or bust point of view, sure this season was a failure, but overall in the first season of play, the Miami Heat's season was a success.

Down Goes Joba

Joba Chamberlain will end his season, after opting for Tommy John Surgery

Yesterday, the Yankees took another hit to their bullpen when Joba Chamberlain opted to get Tommy John Surgery. Joba will join Pedro Feliciano, and Rafael Soriano on the DL.

Joba has torn ligaments in his elbow and will have surgery on Thursday.

Soriano is currently out for 4-6 weeks with shoulder problems, and Pedro Feliciano, who hasn't even pitched this season, is also out until July.

Like most pitchers, Joba will go into hibernation for 12-14 months. Tommy John is arguably the most popular and controversial surgery for pitchers. Many pitchers who come back from the surgery though, don't have as much success on the diamond.

Some notable players who have had Tommy John Surgery in the past few years are Stephen Strasburg, AJ Burnett, Brian Wilson, Adam Wainwright, and Tim Hudson.

This season, Joba was having a pretty good start. In 28 and 2/3 innings, Joba had only given up nine earned runs. He had  24 strikeouts and only seven walks, and had only  blown one save. Joba was also  2-0 and had a 1.05 WHIP.

Despite winning last night's game, the Yankees have lost control of first place in the AL East. With another hit to their bullpen, the Yankees really need better pitching by their starters.

The Yankees didn't make any huge offseason moves, so will they pull a blockbuster trade midseason? Fans are just waiting to see what GM Brian Cashman has up his sleeve's.

As for starters, rumors have been flying around saying that the Yankees are really trying to add Josh Johnson, of the Florida Marlins, or Felix Hernandez, of the Seattle Mariners, to the team.

For the relievers, the Yankees have considered trading back for Kerry Wood, who also had the famous surgery years back. Also, with Phil Hughes return soon to come, will the Yankees move Phil to the bullpen. Ivan Nova, who has pitched in place of Hughes has been pretty good, including last night when he pitched seven innings and gave up only two runs.

Until the Yankees get some help in the bullpen, it looks like David Robertson and Boone Logan will be the go-to guys. The Yankees really need some solid starting pitching in order to re-pass the Red Sox for the division lead.

Where Should Terrelle Pryor Go?

Both Tressel and Pryor will not be returning to OSU next season.

Just a few days after Jim Tressel's dismissal from The Ohio State University, Quarterback Terrelle Pryor has announced he will forgo his senior year.

Pryor already would have been suspended for the first five games of the season. Also it is very likely the Buckeyes will have similar punishments that the USC Trojan's were given, which means they will be banned for a few bowl games.

Pryor is currently in a messy situation, because like the other players on the team, he sold memorabilia for around $40,000. Pryor is said to have spent this money on tattoos and cars. The car he was driving also had a suspended license.

Coming into college football, Pryor was one of the highest ranked players in the country. He pushed back his signing day and when he made his decision, it was huge news in the college football world. Pryor would announce he would go on to play at Ohio State, despite getting scholarships from Pittsburgh, Penn State, Michigan, and Oregon.

Pryor would go on to have a solid career at Ohio State. He never led them to a National Championship game, and never placed in the top five for Heisman voting, but led them to three BCS bowl games.

Since Pryor has left Ohio State, many rumors are speculating where he could go.

An early rumor is that he would go to the CFL and sign with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Another rumor is that he would play in the UFL. Pryor has denied both rumors, and has said he plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft in July.

Also, we don't even know if Pryor will play Quarterback in the NFL. Sure he is dead-on accurate with his throws, and led the Buckeyes to three BCS bowl games, but he has the fit to play tight end. Pryor is 6'6 and weighs close to 235 lbs.

So where could Terrelle Pryor end up?

The Seattle Seahawks would be a great suitor for Pryor. With Matt Hasselbeck's seasons in Seattle limited, they should look to refresh their quarterback position and draft Pryor. Pryor would be a great fit for Seattle, not only because he can pass in the pocket, but because he can run too. Seattle spent it's first two picks on offensive linemen, so this pick makes sense.

The San Francisco 49'ers have had their name brought up in discussions related to Pryor. Personally, I don't think this is a good fit for Pryor. With Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick both fighting for quarterback, Pryor would just add more chaos to the team.

The New York Jets would be an interesting fit for Pryor. The Jets have already seen an college quarterback play a different position for them. Like Brad Smith, the Pryor could be used in the wildcat, and even go out for some passes. You never know what tricks Rex Ryan has up his sleeves.

Pryor could also land a starting job in Oakland. With Jamarcus Russell and Jason Campbell both failing over the past few years at quarterback, Pryor could extremely help the Raiders. The Raiders had a surprisingly good season last year (for Raiders' standards), and a good quarterback could just make the team better. The Raiders are also one of the fastest teams in the NFL, which is a great fit for speedy Pryor.

This one could be a stretch, but with Peyton Manning retiring in the next five years, the Colts might look to groom Pryor into the starting quarterback once Manning leaves. Manning definitely hasn't aged, but the guy has to retire sometime, and Pryor could help spark up this team.

Name the last time the Buffalo Bills had a franchise quarterback. The last time the Bills were for real were back in the days of Jim Kelly. Buffalo look like they are set on Ryan Fitzpatrick, but you never know with the Bills.

Every year, the Miami Dolphins come very close to making the playoffs, despite playing the AFC East. Chad Henne has raised serious eyebrows in the past few years, if he can carry this team. With a solid defense, a good offensive line, and some good role players, the Dolphins are just missing a good quarterback. The Dolphins are known for their wildcat option, so is Pryor a good fit there?

With Kurt Warner retiring, Matt Leinart failing, and myriad unexperienced quarterbacks playing this season, the Arizona Cardinals need a quarterback. Since the Cardinals didn't draft a quarterback in the draft this year, many sources were reporting that they were trying to trade for Kevin Kolb once the lockout ends. Pryor might be a good fit for Arizona though. He has the arm to hit Larry Fitzgerald deep, and would have the option to run too. With a wild wild NFC West, maybe just one big signing could get the Cardinals back into the Super Bowl Hunt.

We don't know if their will even be football next season, or if Pryor will even find a team, but if he finds a suitor will he have success in the NFL? Rafa claimed his record tying sixth French Open with a victory over Roger Federer.

Today, Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-1 to claim his historic sixth French Open Title. The only other tennis player ever to win at Roland Garros six times is Bjorn Borg. The victory also puts him at 10 overall Grand Slams, which is only six behind Federer. Nadal, being five years younger the Federer, is on track to surpass his record of 16 Grand Slam's.

On his journey to his sixth French Open Title, Nadal defeated seven opponents. In his first round, Nadal played John Isner, and although it was close, Nadal won in five sets. Nadal would then beat his next five opponents in straight sets. He faced Pablo Andujar, Antonio Veic, and Ivan Ljubicic before meeting up with Robin Soderling in the Quarterfinals.

The last time Nadal didn't win the French Open, in 2009, was because he was defeated by Soderling. This time, Rafa would get the better of Soderling, and beat him in straight sets. In the semi's Nadal faced off against Andy Murray. The game was close, but again Nadal won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. After Federer snapped Djokovic's streak of 43 wins, he would go on to play Nadal.

Like always on clay though, Nadal defeated Federer.

Nadal did not play his best tennis though. He made myriad errors just from basic groundstrokes, and his serve wasn't dominant.

Nadal fell behind in the first set 3-0, but would rally to win 7-5. The second set went into tie-break, but Nadal once again pulled through and won that set 7-6 (7-3).

Federer would storm back the next set 7-5 and take an early lead in the fourth set. Many thought that Nadal could possibly have a relapse of the 2008 Wimbledon finals, when Federer came back from two sets to win. Nadal would have none of that and take the final set 6-1.

With Nadal's victory at Roland Garros, does that mean he is back to the #1 player in the world? Although  Novak Djokovic lost his streak of 43 straight games, his win streak against Nadal is still in place.

With Wimbledon starting in just two weeks, who will be the favorite to win in England. Will it be Rafael Nadal, the top ranked player who is starting a streak of his own? Will it be Djokovic, who will try to rebound and keep his streak vs Nadal alive? Or will it be Roger Federer, the "old guy", who might have one or two last runs left?

My go to guy to win Wimbledon has to be Nadal, but I could very well see Roger Federer coming out victorious. Federer has won six Wimbledon's of his own.

Djokovic's Streak Comes to An End

Roger Federer has defeated Novak Djokovic to advance to the French Open Finals, and has ended Djokovic's streak of 43 games. Federer handed Djokovic his first loss of 2011.

Djokovic previously passed John McEnroe's win streak of 42 games, when he advanced to the Semi-Finals. Federer defeated Djokovic 6-7 (5-7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7). Technically though, Djokovic really only had a streak of 41 games because in two games in the French Open, Djokovic had an opponent retire and forfeit to him.

Now that Djokovic's streak is over, Federer will go on to play Rafael Nadal in the Finals of the French Open. Nadal just beat Andy Murray today in straight sets.

Rafa is looking to keep his world #1 title with a win over his arch-nemesis Roger Federer. Nadal has previously won Roland Garros five times, including last year's tournament. On the other hand, Federer is looking to win another Grand Slam. Federer has not won a Grand Slam since last year's Aussie Open. Roger and Rafa have combined to win the last six French Opens.

Some of the highlights of Djokovic's journey include victories at the ATP Internazionali BNL d'Italia, ATP Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, ATP Serbia Open, ATP Sony Ericsson Open, ATP BNP Paribas Open, ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and the Australian Open.

During his streak Djokovic had been able to tame Federer and Nadal going 7-0 against them before losing today. Djokovic's last loss came on November 27th 2010 to, none other than Roger Federer.

Ironically, before losing to Federer, Djokovic actually called up McEnroe to ask if he could help him practice in between days before his match against Federer.

Federer vs Nadal will be one for the ages. Nadal has had a history of owning Federer on clay, but Federer beat Nadal in '09. Nadal reclaimed the title the next year though. Nadal is looking to catch up on Federer's Grand Slam record of 16 Grand Slams. Federer is looking to add to his list and possibly win one or two more titles before calling it quits.

Nadal is still probably the best player on the planet, but Djokovic did put up one heck of a streak.  Djokovic will look to rebound and start a new streak, when the tennis schedule continues at Wimbledon in late June.

Shaq Retires From The NBA

Shaquille O'Neal was one of the greatest big men to ever play the game of basketball.

After 19 great seasons in the NBA, Shaquille O'Neal has retired from the NBA. Before retiring Shaq was the oldest player in the NBA at 39 years old. Shaq will go down in the books as one of the greatest True Centers in NBA history. He won four championships, an MVP in 2000, and NBA Finals MVP three straight years with the Lakers.

In the 1992 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic selected Shaq with the first pick. Him and Penny Hardaway formed a good duo in Orlando. During his rookie season he averaged 23 points, close to 14 rebounds, and three and a half blocks. He would go on to win Rookie of the Year, and even be named to the All-Star team.

In his second season Shaq and Penny helped bring Orlando to it's first playoff appearance in franchise history in 1994 with a 50-32 record.

In this third and arguably best season with he Magic, Shaq finished second in MVP voting. He led the NBA in scoring that season and helped the Magic past the Bulls and Pacers in the playoffs, to lead them to the NBA Finals. In the finals though Hakeem Olajuwon and the Rockets took control and helped sweep the Magic.

In the offseason of 1996, Shaq switched coasts and moved to Los Angeles to play for the Lakers. After the Lakers drafted Kobe Bryant many predicted that the two would win a few rings with the Lakers.

After getting beaten by the Jazz and Spurs early in Shaq's tenure with Los Angeles, Shaq helped lead the Lakers to three straight championships. Shaq dominated and posted the highest scoring average for a center in NBA history, which is more than Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell.

The three rings he won with the Lakers (2000-2002) would be his only with the team. Soon after their winning season Shaq and Kobe started to fight. The two would get into heated arguments. After losing the 2004 NBA Finals to the Detroit Pistons, Shaq was finished Los Angeles, and headed for Miami.

After taking his talents to South Beach, he was paired with Dwayne Wade, who was in his second year with the team. Wade was one of the quickest and energetic players in the league.

The two would go onto win the NBA Finals in their first year together, despite dropping the first two games of the series against the Dallas Mavericks. That would be their only championship together.

After Miami, Shaq would go on to play for three more teams. He made quick stops in Phoenix, Cleveland, and Boston before retiring. Ever since "The Diesel" left LA, his stats declined.

So how will you remember Shaq?

Will you remember him for his dominance in the late 1990's and early 2000's? What about his three-peat with Kobe? His terrible free throws? Will you remember Shaq for his beef with Kobe (no pun intended), or will you remember him for being able to win a ring without Kobe, in Miami?

Will you remember Shaq for being one of the greatest centers in NBA history? Will you remember him for not being able to say good-bye earlier?

Will you remember Shaq for his attributes off the court?

Will you remember Shaq for his other profession, rapping? Will you remember the big fella for earning an MBA or becoming a cop? What about all of his charities?

Or will you remember Shaquille O'Neal for his nicknames.

"Shaq", "The Diesel", "Superman", "The Big Shaqtus", "The Big Aristotle", "The Big Shamrock", and many other names were affiliated with O'Neal.

Whatever way you remember Shaq, just remember his impact to the game. He was one of the few players to ever bring down the hoop. He had a lifetime average of 23.7 points per game, and would be much higher had be retired earlier. He also averaged close to 11 rebounds per game. His days in Orlando and Los Angeles were some of the greatest.

The 7'1, 324 machine is finally saying good-bye from the game he loved. A future Hall of Famer, Shaq was one of the best true centers the NBA has ever seen.

Barcelona Defeats Manchester United To Win UEFA Cup

Barcelona dominated Manchester United to win the UEFA Cup 3-1

After defeating Manchester United 3-1, F.C. Barcelona has been crowned the champions of Europe. Before this year, Barcelona had only won the UEFA Champions League three times. The last time Barcelona won was when they were led by Ronaldinho, Eto'o, and Ibrahimovic. Barcelona is now led by Messi, Xavi, and David Villa after the past three players left the team.

Barcelona advanced to the finals after defeating their rivals Real Madrid in a two game aggregate while, Manchester defeated Schalke.

Barcelona is managed by Josep "Pep" Guardiola and is led by striker Leo Messi. They have arguably the best offense in Europe, with players like David Villa, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and of course Messi.

On the other hand, Manchester United is managed by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, and is led by Wayne Rooney.

Despite the match being played in England's famous Wembley Stadium, the Barcelona fans outnumbered and out-cheered the United fans throughout the match.

From the opening kickoff, Barcelona dominated all aspects of the match. They controlled the pace of the match, outshot Manchester United 22-4, and had dominant possession of the ball. Out of Barcelona's 22 shots, 12 were on goal while Manchester only had one shot on goal, which happened to be Rooney's goal.

Barcelona had many chances early to open up the game, but didn't get their first goal until the 27th minute. Xavi dribbled the ball up to Manchester's box before passing it off to Pedro who had a wide open net. Pedro passed it by Van Der Sar to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

Manchester had no energy or will to win throughout the match, but tied up the game 1-1 in the 34th minute. After a give-and-go close to the sideline, Rooney broke into the middle of the field. Rooney passed it up to Giggs who then played it back to him inside the box. Rooney placed it right in the corner to tie up the game. It would be Manchester's only goal of the game, as it was all Barcelona from there.

In the 42nd minute right before half, David Villa took the ball down the sideline and passed it to Messi in front of the goal. Messi wasn't able to get a good touch on the ball, and it went off to the side of the net. The half would end 1-1.

In the 52nd minute, after a missed strike, Messi had the ball at the top of the box and fired at the net. The ball went off a Manchester United defender and Barcelona was rewarded a corner kick. Two minutes later, Messi would score from distance.

Later, Barcelona had a great chance in the 64th minute after a through-ball into the box. Barcelona crossed the ball into the middle, but the shot was deflected out. Two minutes later, Iniesta would shoot a rocket from the top of the box, but it went straight to Van Der Sar.

Barcelona would finally cap off the game in the 68th minute. Leo Messi tiptoed through the Manchester defense, and after a deflected shot, the ball went straight to David Villa who placed the ball in the upper 90.

After some subs, Manchester United tried to spark up of their offense, but had no success. When the final whistle blew it was 3-1 Barcelona.

After losing the Copa Del Rey to their rivals Real Madrid,Barcelona claimed the UEFA Cup, giving Spain complete dominance this year. The Copa Del Rey is similar to England's FA Cup, which is just a country's own tournament.

Two years ago, Barcelona topped Manchester 2-0 and beat them again this year 3-1 to win the UEFA Champions League.

Buster Posey Fractures Leg After Home Plate Collision

Buster Posey was clearly in agony after being left defenseless at a home plate collision last night.

Last night, the San Francisco Giants' young star catcher, Buster Posey, fractured a bone in his leg after a collision at the plate. Initially, the reports were saying he would be done for the 2011 MLB season, but now sources are reporting that he could return in about eight weeks. Either way, it is a crush to the San Francisco Giants, who now lead the NL West, after catching the Colorado Rockies.

The city of San Francisco has already been struck with drama this season. On opening day, Bryan Stow was leaving Dodgers Stadium when he was attacked by two Dodgers' fans. Posey's injury just makes the World Series Champs' more stressed.

The 24 year old, and reigning NL Rookie Of the Year collided at the plate with the Marlins' Center Fielder,  Scott Cousins in extra innings.

After getting called up midway through the 2010 season, Posey made an immediate impact for the Giants, and this year was batting cleanup. Posey is one of the few catchers in the MLB today, who not only stops balls behind the plate, but can provide some offense for his team.

An emotional Cousins said "The last thing I wanted to do was break the guy's leg". Obviously he feels sorry for knocking out one of the MLB's best catchers.

Today in the first game since Posey's injury, the Giants fell to the Marlins 1-0, as backup catcher Eli Whiteside went hitless. The Giants left five runners on base during the game, and could have used Posey for those situations.

Posey's injury brings up a huge problem in the MLB, player's safety. Although baseball is not a contact sport like Hockey and Football, the players are under equipped with pads. Catcher's have to make be able to embrace themselves for a collision, while still getting position, and catching the ball in order to get the runner out.

Also pitchers these days are just throwing harder, and batters are left almost defenseless if these high 90 MPH balls come their way. Batters are really only required to where helmets, but many opt to where protective cups, elbow guards, and shin guards when batting. To be honest though, if a player gets clocked by a high speed pitch, Is a helmet really gonna save them from an injury. Of course it helps to have a helmet, but still players are still getting concussions, and other injuries with the equipment.

The MLB definitely needs to upgrade the safety requirements like the NFL has done. Some say the NFL has been a little too extreme, but in reality with all these retired NFL players having post concussion syndrome and even killing themselves like Dave Duerson it is not worth it.

Although it is good news that Posey should be returning this season, better equipment and some rule modifying in the MLB could have prevented this incident.

Mike Brown Named New Coach Of The Los Angeles Lakers

Was Mike Brown the right guy for the Lakers to hire?

Today, the Phil Jackson day's are officially behind us, as the Los Angeles Lakers have found their next coach. Mike Brown, who spent the last year being an NBA analyst for ESPN, after being fired from the Cleveland Cavaliers will be the 22nd coach in Laker's history.

Right now, the initial contract is a four year deal with an option on the last year, worth a little more than $18 million.

In Brown's previous tenure with the Cleveland Caviliers, he coached five successful seasons, helping turn the already great LeBron James into an established superstar. Under Coach Brown, LeBron won back to back MVP awards in 2009 and 2010.

It was also in 2009, that Brown won the Coach of the Year award, helping lead the Cavs to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Under Brown's resume also includes a trip the NBA Finals back in 2007.

Before coaching the Caviliers, Brown was an assistant coach under Greg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs.

The other candiadates for the job including Kevin McHale, Rick Adelman, Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Dunleavy Sr. and Brian Shaw, who is an assistant coach for the Lakers.

Brown is known to be a defensive-minded coach, which should help the Lakers. We know the Lakers can score, having one of the best offenses in the NBA, but what really hurt them this year was the offense. Dirk Nowitzki dominated the Lakers in the playoffs this season, and before him, Chris Paul put on a show before being eliminated by Los Angeles.

The Lakers are known for running their triangle offense under Jackson. Brown has said that he would like to keep the ideas of the triangle offense but modify it a little. When with the Spurs, Coach Popovich ran a similar triangle oriented offense that Brown is familiar with.

So why did the Lakers choose Mike Brown, over favorites like Brian Shaw, Rick Adelman, and Jeff Van Gundy.

Although Brown has not won an NBA title before as a head coach, the Lakers feel that he will have the best long term impact on the Lakers. Like Phil Jackson, Rick Adelman is also old, and probably wouldn't be able to help the Lakers transition, once Kobe Bryant leaves. The Lakers didn't feel Brian Shaw would be the right guy, because they wanted a coach with previous Head Coaching experience. And for Jeff Van Gundy, he definitely has the brains to run the Lakers but Van Gundy doesn't fit under the Lakers' system.

The biggest questions that Brown needs to answer for the Lakers is if he can help them win a title in the near future, while Kobe Bryant is still playing, and can he help the Lakers stay as one of the best teams in the NBA even when Bryant leaves.

Yankees Rally In The 7th To Win Subway Series

The Yankees would win the series 2-1.

Coming into the Subway Series, both the Yankees and the Mets were looking to come out victorious, and get themselves back on track. The Mets were a game behind .500 going into the series, while the Yankees were four games over, but recently overcoming a six game losing streak.

As expected though, the Yankees, despite dropping Game One, would go on to win the series 2-1, thanks to some late offense.

The rain kept away from Game One, as Freddy Garcia took the mound against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Mark Teixeira broke open the game in the bottom of the third with a solo blast to right. It was Tex's 11th home run of the season and the only run of the night for the Yankees.

The Mets would get even with the Yanks in the top of the next inning, when Josh Turner, who has been playing in place of injured third-basemen David Wright, doubled to right field scoring Fernando Martinez.

Turner's RBI would make it six straight games with one, and would continue his hot hitting into Saturday. His streak would come to an end though on Sunday.

The 1-1 game was broken up by a solo home run by Daniel Murphy off of Freddy Garcia. From that shot to right, the relievers would cancel each others out, and the Mets would take Game One 2-1.

Game Two took place the next day, despite the rumors that the world was ending, with AJ Burnett pitching for the Bombers, and Chris Capuano for the Mets.

The Mets would get off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, scoring two quick runs off of Burnett. The Yankees responded right away though, with two two-run homeruns, by Russell Martin and Mark Teixeira, to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

It would be all Yankees from here, with two more solo home runs by Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson, who is second in the American League in home runs.

Burnett would allow one more run, but it was good enough to give the Yankees a win in Game Two. The Yankees would go on to win by a final score of 7-3, thanks to a late sac fly by Tex. Mark Teixeira would have a great series against the Mets, and going into the final game of the series, had 29 RBI's.

The final game of the series was played during the Sunday afternoon. Ivan Nova pitched for the Yankees, while Mets ace Mike Pelfrey looked to give the Mets the series win.

Curtis Granderson homered in his first at bat, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. That makes it two straight games with a home run for Granderson, who is hoping to catch up to Jose Bautista's MLB leading 18 home runs. Granderson is only two behind with 16.

In just the next inning though, the Mets would answer and score three runs off of Ivan Nova. Nova pitched six and two thirds innings, allowing 11 hits, a walk, and three runs.

The game was pretty quiet for the next five innings, but in the bottom of the seventh, the Yankees had a rapture of their own.

Derek Jeter, who tore apart the Mets this series, singled scoring two runs, in what would be an eight run seventh inning. Jeter had five hits this series, narrowing his 3,000 hits goal to just 25.

After A-Rod reached on a bases loaded infield single, Cano singled to right, and Brett Gardner and Chris Dickerson singled  to left, The Yankees led the Mets 9-3.

Luis Ayala, who pitched an inning and a third for the Yankees was awarded with the win.

Coming out of the series, the Yankees have retaken over the AL East. They are tied atop the standings with the Rays. Still with the Red Sox and Blue Jays both playing good baseball, the AL East is still wide open.

The Yankees will play the Blue Jays over the next three days, before going on their first west coast road trip of the season. The Yankees will then play the Mariners, Athletics, and Angels before heading home to a series against Boston.

As for the Mets, they are only two games below .500. They are in 4th place in the NL East, but only six games back (for now). The Mets next three series are against the Chicago Cubs, division rivals Philadelphia Phillies, and Pittsburgh Pirates. If the Mets can win two out of these three series, it will put them in good shape come June.

The Mets are still playing without David Wright and Johan Santana, so when both return to the Mets it will be a huge help.

Inter-league play doesn't pick up again until late June, but the Mets and Yankees will rematch in early July at Citi Field.

Thunder Defeat Mavs To Tie Up Series 1-1

Last night, the Oklahoma City Thunder tied up the series against the Dallas Mavericks, thanks to a great performance by Kevin Durant and James Harden.

The Thunder were able to defeat the Mavericks despite having Russell Westbrook benched for most of the second half. Westbrook wasn't playing terrible, scoring 18 points and having four assists in the first half. It was Westbrook's four turnovers that worried coach Scott Brooks.

In Game One, despite scoring 20 points, Westbrook had another bad game, a trend that has been reappearing in the playoffs this year for Westbrook. Westbrook was 3-15 from the field and didn't even try shooting from beyond the arc.

So who has stepped up for Westbrook, and have kept the Thunder in the playoffs?

Eric Maynor is the name. Maynor who played college ball at VCU, was drafted by the Thunder a few years ago. The first option to fill in for Westbrook would be Nate Robinson, but he is playing just as bad as Russell, so Maynor has been given the call to help the Thunder win.

After being outscored by Dallas' bench in Game One, the Thunder answered and outscored the Mavericks' bench 50-29.

Last night in 20 minutes of play, Maynor had no turnovers, shot 5-9 from the field, and had 13 points. When it was crunch time in the final minutes of the game, it was Maynor, with the ball in his hand rather than Westbrook. Maynor looked very calm with the rock in his hand, and had several key buckets down the stretch.

Going into the last quarter, the Thunder only had a one point lead. They ended up winning by six, thanks to help not only from Maynor, but from James Harden.

In the previous series vs the Grizzlies, it was Harden who made the Grizzlies endangered species. He was lethal from the three-point line, and would often put the game out of hands in the game's final minutes.

Last night, Harden had 23 huge points, and was the second leading scorer on the team. Harden also shot over 50% from behind the three-point line, and was 7-8 from the free-throw line. The Thunder fans were rocking the "fear the beard" chant, which is getting pretty popular, after San Fransisco Giants fans started chanting to fan favorite Brian Wilson.

And finally, it was the leader, Kevin Durant, who helped finish off this game vs the Mavericks. The turning point of the game without a doubt, was when the skinny Durant, dunked over the 7'0 263lbs Brandon Haywood. Here is the video by ESPN that shows Durant's dunk

Although it only came in the first quarter, The Thunder were down by nine at the time, and after the dunk never looked back. They would end the first quarter on a run, and continue it into the second quarter where they outscored Dallas by seven.

So the series is far from over, but the Thunder did their job holding off the Mavericks at home. The series now shifts up to Oklahoma City. Will we see Russell Westbrook get some redemption time, or will we see Maynor and the bench help fill in and give the Thunder some wins?

Sabathia, Yankees Look To Snap 3 Game Losing Streak Against The Red Sox

The New York Yankees hosted the Boston Red Sox for the first time this season last night, and the results were not good. The Yankees held in there for most of the game, but Joba Chamberlain gave up some late inning runs, and despite a comeback by the Yankees in the eight and ninth innings, the Red Sox claimed Game One 5-4.

That makes it three straight losses for the Pinstripes, who lost the last two games of a series against the Royals. The Red Sox, despite having a terrible start to the season, have rebounded since and find themselves only a few spots back behind the Yankees, who now trail the Rays by two games.

It seems like the roles have reversed between the Red Sox and Yankees, who are now 3-7 in their last ten games. The bats have definitely been there for the Yankees, and the starting pitchers have been great, especially AJ Burnett, who has redeemed himself from some bad baseball last year. It has been the middle and late relief that has been sub-par for the Yankees. Boone Logan, Rafael Soriano, Buddy Carlyle, and Joba Chamberlain all need to step it up for New York.

Good news for the Bombers though is that they have their ace, C.C. Sabathia, on the mound tonight. Sabathia's last start was fine, where he gave up only three runs in six innings, and received the win vs the Texas Rangers.

Sabathia has been spectacular vs the Red Sox at home, since joining the Yankees. C.C. is 3-0 with a ERA under 1.00 inside Yankee Stadium, when playing the Red Sox.

The Red Sox will have their ace, Josh Beckett, on the mound as well. Beckett is 2-1 this season with a 1.99 ERA. This game will definitely be a battle between the two fireballers.

Jorge Posada, who has struggled this season, was a late scratch by the Yankees and has been replaced by Andruw Jones. Posada's successor behind the plate, Russell Martin, has been terrific this season. Martin hit a two run homerun last night that tied the game at 2-2.

The rest of the Yankee bats have been the best in baseball. The Yankees have three of the top five home run hitters in the American League right now. Granderson leads the league with 12, while Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano have nine each.

The Yankees are second in the MLB for runs per game with a little over five.

The Red Sox will start Carl Crawford at left field and will have him bat eighth.

Carl started off the season terrible, and even had to cancel his cell phone plan to stop receiving calls from angry fans. Crawford has come back from his slump though, and is now batting more then .075 better then he used to. Crawford had a key RBI in last nights game that gave the Red Sox a 5-4 win.

If the Yankees want to snap their losing streak tonight, they need a great pitching performance by Sabathia. The Yankees need Sabathia to pitch at least seven innings tonight, so they can have one inning of relief and then have the MLB's save leader, the sandman, Mariano Rivera, finish off Boston.

San Jose Sharks Close Out Detroit Red Wings To Advance To Western Conference Finals

The San Jose Sharks have been one of the best teams in the NHL this past decade. In the past they have had great goaltending by Evgeni Nabokov, and great offense lead by Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, and Dany Heatley. They were always in the top three teams in the Western Conference, but could never get over the hump of getting to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Over the off-season, The Sharks let go of their long time goalie, Evgeni Nabakov, and looked to get a younger goalie. Many hockey analyst did not predict the Sharks to have a great season. After signing young goaltender Antti Niemi, who helped lead the Chicago Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1960, the Sharks quickly changed those analyst's minds. Could this be the year that the San Jose Sharks go to the Stanley Cup Finals?

At the beginning of the season, it did not look too good. The Sharks found themselves out of the playoffs after ten games. Once the second half of the season started though, the Sharks were the hottest team in the NHL. By the time the playoffs began, the Sharks were ranked second in the Western Conference with 105 points.

The usual stars of Heatley, Thornton, and Marleau all had great seasons as expected with 64,70,73 points respectively. Dan Boyle, the team's best defenseman also had a great season with 50 points, and a +2 ratio. The reason the Sharks were so successful in the regular season though was because of the skaters who aren't as popular as Heatley, Thornton, and Marleau.

Devin Setoguchi, Ryan Clowe, Joe Pavelski, and rookie Logan Couture all had phenomenal seasons. That second line of Setoguchi, Clowe, and Pavelski combined for 169 points, even with Devin Setoguchi missing ten games. Couture also had a spectacular season with 56 points, and could possibly win the Rookie of the Year Award, which in the NHL is called the Calder Memorial Trophy.

So why have the Sharks have had so much success in this year's playoffs?

Yes, the first line has been producing like expected, but it is the second and third lines that are carrying the Sharks. Ryan Clowe, who even missed a controversial game earlier in the series vs the Red Wings, leads the team in points, with 13. Couture is second on the list followed by Dan Boyle. Patrick Marleau who lead the team in points during the regular was missing in action early in the playoffs, but has come back strong in this series vs the Red Wings, and even gave the Sharks the winning goal in Game Seven to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Like many expected,the Sharks took care of the Kings, despite having three games going to OT. Overtime games in the NHL playoffs this season have been very common with almost every other game going to OT.

In the next round the Sharks looked like they would finish the Red Wings off easily getting off to a 3-0 series lead. Clowe then got injured, and the Sharks were outshot badly by almost fifteen shots in the next three games, and before you know it, the series was tied up 3-3.

Detroit had all the momentum despite having Game Seven being played in San Jose. Still, when the Sharks needed it most, Marleau stepped up.

The Sharks got off to an early 2-0 lead but the Red Wings narrowed it down to one goal after Henrik Zetterberg scored the only goal of the second period.

After numerous saves by Antti Niemi, who was very clutch in Game Seven, Patrick Marleau finally found the back of the net. With eight minutes to play in the third and final period, Marleau gave the Sharks a 3-1 lead. The Red Wings would go on to answer a minute later, but it wouldn't be enough.

Niemi would go on to save 38 of 40 total shots and have a save percentage of 95%. With the Sharks facing off against the NHL's best team, the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference Finals, will this be the year that the Sharks are finally hungry enough to eat their prey? We know the power line in Heatley, Thornton, and Marleau will show, but if the Sharks want to be able to stay close with the Sedin Brothers and Ryan Kesler, they need their second and third lines to come up clutch in this upcoming series.

Josh Reichman's Interview With Houston Rockets Star Kevin Martin

First off, I would just like to thank Kevin, and his assistant Shannon for making this all happen. Without them courteously responding to my messages, this interview wouldn't have happened.


Many of you know who Kevin Martin is, but just incase you don't, here are some stats. Currently, Kevin is playing in the NBA for the Houston Rockets. Before Houston he played on the Sacramento Kings for seven seasons. He graduated from Western Carolina University, and was a first round pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.


Kevin has averaged over 20 points per game, five times in his career, and has a lifetime average of 18.5 points per game. Martin is known for his quick defense, great shooting, driving, and being able to get to the free throw line where he shoots 86%, and this year was top 10 in the NBA.


Kevin has also been a great person on and off the court. He has a feature on his website, kmart12.com, that shows how he gives back to the community.


Anyways, onto the interview. My questions will be JR while his responses will be KM!


JR: Growing up, who was your favorite player in the NBA?

KM: Michael Jordan.

JR: What has been your greatest accomplishment so far in your NBA career?

KM: Being where I am today after where I started and what people expected me to do when I got drafted.

JR:Who gave you the nickname K-Mart, when did it start up?

KM: It just started among my high school coaching staff and players.

JR: How did it feel playing for the Rockets after a long tenure with the Kings?

KM: It was bittersweet because I knew I was going to a better team but Sac (Sacramento) was my first home in my professional career and taught me a lot in the business.

JR:What goals do you look to accomplish in the next seasons to come?

KM:  Just keep improving in every aspect of the game and don't get complacent.
