TCU Getting Big

After being highly criticized for a weak schedule year after year, and being told they are not deserving of a BCS Bowl Game, the TCU Frogs have accepted a contract to join the Big East in 2012.

Many people have also complained about how weak the Big East is so TCU can become their football powerhouse since the Big East is guaranteed at least 1 BCS Bowl Game. With the other Eight teams being West Virginia, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Louisville and Rutgers, TCU could possibly be able to Win the conference in its first year.

TCU is leaving the MWC, or Mountain West Conference after joining in '05. Coincidently As TCU is leaving, Boise State is entering the Conference. BYU and Utah are both leaving the MWC as well. So long for competition for Boise as it has screwed itself over by joining the MWC.

TCU has also accepted a full deal to the Big East, joining its basketball conference too, becoming its 18 member. Many teams in the entire 18 team Big East don't have a football team to compete at Division I level and some don't have a team at all. TCU is the conference's most western conference and will likely gain a lot of popularity in recruits hoping to join the Big East.

TCU is one of the many teams leaving and joining new conferences this decade. By 2013 it will be a new Era in College Sports as almost every conference is gaining or losing a team to form super conferences. Hopefully all of these changes turn out good and competition is even better.

College Football Week 13 Recap

23. North Carolina State vs Maryland
24. Iowa vs Maryland

Top Performances:

Game of the Week: Boise State vs Nevada: 34-31 Nevada
Boise started off with a nice lead over Nevada as Kellen Moore played well as usual. Going into halftime they had a nice 17 point lead. Though as most people could had projected, Nevada came back and ended up tying the game up at 31. As time expired Boise State's Kicker missed an easy Field Goal sending the game to overtime. The Broncos got the ball first in OT and drove down a few yards before having to attempt another Field Goal. This time he missed again to the other direction. Nevada then faced a 4th down and drilled a Field Goal for the win, defeating Boise and giving them their first regular season loss in a while.

Comeback Kid

Today Texas Rangers Outfielder, Josh Hamliton, was awarded the American League Most Valuable Player Award today. A few years ago many people would had never predicted Josh to win the award due to his troubled past.

Hamilton was a highly anticipated rookie after being drafted #1 in the 1999 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. Unfortunately Josh started to slump and turned to drugs and alcohol to relive the pressure. After a near death experience, Josh decided to quit and finally got back to become the great baseball player he is now.

Not only has Josh been clean since '05 but he has also just won the most prestigious award given to a Major League Baseball Player.

This decision to elect Hamilton as the MVP is a no brainer. He batted .359, hit 32 homeruns and knocked in 100 RBIs. He also had incredible OBS, OPS, and SLG percentages. He also did all of this without even playing the last two months of the season due to injury.

Comparing him to other batters in the American League he ranks 1st in Batting Average, OPS, and SLG. He ranks 2nd in OBP and is top 15 in every other batting category.

The other players revieving votes were runner up Miguel Cabrera, third place Robinson Cano, followed by Jose Bautista and Paul Konerko.

This award closes off the MLB 2010 awards and i would just like to say congratulations to all winners: Josh Hamilton, Joey Votto, Roy Halladay, Felix Hernandez, Nefatli Feliz, Buster Posey, Ron Gardenhire, and Bud Black

College Football Week 12 Review

As we get a week closer to the College Football Finale, the to 7 teams in the country hold their positions.

Top 25 Teams that Lost:
8. Nebraska vs 19. Texas A&M
20. Iowa vs 9. Ohio State
21. Mississippi State vs 13. Arkansas
24. Miami vs 16. Virginia Tech
USC vs Virginia Tech

Top Performances:
1. Kellen Moore- Led Boise to a 51-0 Victory and passed for 333 Yards and threw 4 Touchdowns.
2. Wisconsin Badgers running backs- Combined for over 350 yards and 6 Touchdowns in route to crushing Michigan in Anne Arbor.
3.Marcus Lattimore- on only 7 carries in a blowout win, he rushed for 102 yards and 3 Touchdowns.

Top Dissapointments:
1. Nebraska Cornhuskers- The team failed to score a touchdown and ultimately win as their BCS hopes get crushed with a sloppy loss to Texas A&M.
2. Utah Utes- yes, although they won, they needed a big time 4th quarter comeback to stop a 3rd loss in a row. With Utah's slump it makes TCU's victory over them not look as good.
3. Iowa Hawkeyes- lost another game this week and 2nd in a row as they lose at home to Ohio State, they started off as a great team but down the stretch just have not been clutch.

Game of the Week: LSU vs Ole Miss: 43-36 LSU

In this game Jeremiah Masoli and Ole Miss led the LSU Tigers for most of the game. This game was very exciting and a lot of touchdowns were scored. Both teams had huge running games where each scored 4 rushing touchdowns. Ole Miss took a 1 point lead with a few minutes left but LSU ultimately wont the game with only 44 seconds left. This game also helped LSU set up a potential SEC championship if Auburn loses to Alabama. It also will keep them in the top 5 teams in the country and if everything can work out perfectly we could see them in the title game come January.

Top Games for next week:
1. Auburn vs Alabama
2. Oregon vs Arizona
3. LSU vs Arkansas
4. Boise State vs Nevada
5. Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State
6.Michigan vs Ohio State (classic game every year)
7. Stanford vs Oregon State
8. Michigan State vs Penn State
9. Florida vs Florida State

All these games are potential upsets and BCS breakers so be sure to watch as many games as you can this saturday

Definitely Not Forever Young

The Titans got sacked again today as they lost their starting Quarter-back Vince Young for the season. In this weeks game vs the Redskins, Vince hurt his thumb and severely tore a muscle. He will need season ending surgery and was placed on the season ending IR. The titans will greatly miss him has crunch time and playoff fighting begins.

Vince and the Titans have a 5-5 record after losing the last three games. Still, they are right in the playoff hunt in this crazy and unpredictable NFL Season. The Titans are only a game back from the Jaguars and Colts who lead the division and are only a few games away from the wild card.

Still six weeks from now is a long time and much of the NFL season is yet to unfold. On the positive note, the Titans have a solid backup in Kerry Collins who has led them to much success in the past. Young joins Kenny Britt who also was injured earlier in the season after putting up some pretty solid stats.

On the bright side, the Titans still have a ridiculous Running-back in Chris Johnson who led the league in rushing last year with over 2,000 yards. For now, only time will tell the outcome of the Titans and the rest of the teams in the NFL this season.

Dominance

What do only the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Celtics have in common with this Jimmie Johnson?Yes, thats right, the answer is 5 or more championships in a row. Not even names like Jordan, Chamberlain, Manning, Brown, Ruth, or Gretzky were capable of doing this. Racing legends like Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, or Jeff Gordon weren't even able to accomplish this extraordinary feat.

On sunday, Johnson started the day in 2nd place behind Denny Hamlin, who held his position throughout most of the season. Though, who could have guessed it would be Johnson to come from behind and win yet another championship. The scenario was all Hamlin had to do was finish ahed of Johnson and to lead more laps then him. Of course neither of those things happened, Johnson finished in 1st and one another championship.

Many people love to argue how NASCAR is boring and takes no skill. half of that is true because five-hundred laps of watching can be boring but not if you are doing the driving. Imagine going close to 200 MPH around a narrow lap with close to fifty other cars around you. Yes, not very boring is it. It must be exhilarating to drive a car with such speed and precision. And the fact that it takes no skill? Race car driving has reported many unfortunate deaths so obviously you must know what your doing in order to race in one of those bad boys.

As to the extent to say that Johnson is one of the best athletes of all-time i might have to disagree. He is very skilled at driving but i cannot say he is a very athletic guy. Yes he dominates his sport but put him on a field or court and i doubt he would be able to compete with those super athletes. Still what Johnson has done is amazing and i would like to congratulate him

Chilly Situation in Minnesota

Today, the highly awaited firing of Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress finally occurred. After leading the team to a horrendous 3-7 record. This season was supposed to be "the year" for the Vikings as they finally might win that Superbowl, and Favre would be able to retire with no questions. Too bad none of this has happened because the team is just not in sync.

Many have been predicting this firing for weeks now every since their record started to go downhill. Now that their playoff hopes have been crushed they Vikings are just looking to get back their mojo and win a couple of more games.

They have the talent in many players just not many of them liked Childress. In an anonymous interview, many players shows much hatred for Childress and stated how much the team would be playing without him.

Talent certainly isn't the problem for the Vikings. They have a lot of probowlers and stars like Favre, Peterson, Rice, Schiancoe, Harvins, Allen, Both Williams, and E.J. Henderson just to name a few. Especially after a late run to the NFC championship game last year, the Vikings proved they were a good team. The team just has terrible chemistry and they just can't pull together a higher score than the opponent by the end of 60 minutes.

Childerss lead the team to success and 2 divisional championships the last two years, has fixed Adrian Peterson's fumbling problems, and has done much more for the team but this year the team really just couldn't win some games. It's unfortunate that comes a few months Favre drama will have to occur again as he really will think about going out on another bad note

New MVP in the National League

The last two seasons, St. Louis Cardinals slugger, Albert Pujols has won the MVP award in the National League. This streak has come to an end after this years new winner, Cincinnati Reds Outfielder Joey Votto surpassed him in votes.

Votto took home 31 of the total of 32 first place votes in a pretty one sided vote. He racked up a total of 443 points while Pujols got the other 1st place vote and 279 points. 3rd place was Rockies new slugger Carlos Gonzalez who had great stats this year and got 240 votes.

Votto lead not only the Reds but the National League in many stats this year. He led his Reds to a divisional title beating out Pujols again, something that hasn't happened in the NL Central in years. Unfortunately the Reds ended up losing in the playoffs to the Philadelphia Phililes. Votto also took home the National League Hank Aaron award for the best hitter.

Now for the stats: Votto lead the National League in On Base Percentage, OPS, and Slugging Percentage. He came second in Batting Average with an amazing .324 Average. He then placed third in homers and RBI's with 37 and 113 respectively. He also came in a very close fourth place for runs and walks. Also in the field he made very few errors this season. Votto clearly dominated the stats all over this year and deserved the award.

Votto is a very young player for a very young team in the Reds. This is only his 3rd season in the MLB and he is not even getting payed a million dollars. Don't be surprised if you hear Votto's name in the future or the Cincinati Reds as both are progressing into a young great player and team.

King Felix!

I know I am a little late on this one, but i have been unavailable to write. Anyways, Congratulations to Felix Hernandez on the 2010 American League Cy Young. Although his record does not show it, he was by far the most dominant pitcher this year in the American League and maybe even the whole Major League.

For the rest of the pitchers, CC Sabathia came in a pretty close 2nd place followed by Tampa Bay Rays ace, David Price. Felix lead the league in: Innings Pitched, ERA, WHIP, and was only one strikeout behind Jered Weaver for most strikeouts. The only negative was his record which was 13-12.

Now for the controversy that many people have been arguing about. Did Hernandez really deserve to win the Cy Young with only 13 wins and 12 losses? I think he 100% deserved it and will back up that argument. If he leads the league in almost every pitching category how could he only get 13 wins and pile up 12 losses. Obviously the answer here is his team. If he is averaging close to only 2 runs per game that's the mariners fault that they cannot score because the average ERA for a pitcher is around 3.50. If Felix pitched for the Yankees, who were the best hitting team in the Majors this season, his stats would be scary. Proffesionals are predicting that he could have gotten anywhere from 23-27 wins which would be unheard of considering this years leader was CC Sabathia with 21, who does infact pitch for the Yankees.

If i was Hernandez i would definitely be talking to my agent in this upcoming season and get me out of Seattle. Cliff Lee did it and he made it to the World Series. Hernandez does not deserve the crappy supporting of the Mariners when he could pitch for a solid team, get more wins, and win next years Cy Young unanimously. Either way Felix Hernandez is your 2010 Al Cy Young Award Winner, and once again congratulations to him.

MLB Coaches Of The Year

The Coach of the Year award does not necessarily go to the best team's coach but more of a coach that is liked by all his players and also wins a lot of games. This years recipients were Bud Black of the San Diego Padres and of the National League, and for the American League it was Minnesota Twins skipper, Ron Gardenhire.

Gardenhire has been coaching the Twins since '02 and is one of the longest tenured coaches around. In his 9 seasons as manager he has led the Twins to the divisional title 6 times. He is a well liked guy around the clubhouse obviously if he has been there this long and also brings success. Gardenhire is a very smart and strategic guy and knows when prospects should shine into stars like Joe Mauer and Fransisco Liriano. Both were called up by Gardenhire and have become stars in the league.

The Funny thing about Gardenhire is that you would think he has won this award before right? False. Gardenhire has actually been the runner-up for this award 5 times in his 9 seasons. Other names like Mike Scioscia, John Madden, Jim Leyland and Joe Torre. Finally he got his chance this year.

Bud Black this year led a Padres team who were predicted to come in last place in a very competitive division to a very close 2nd place in the division. Black's Padres blew their divisional lead with only a few games left. They actually led the division for most of the season. Besides Black's first season with the Padres when he had ace Jake Peavy, the team has improved in the past 3 years.

This is Black's first time winning this award as well. Past winners include divisional rival, Colorado Rockies coach, Jim Tracy, as well as Joe Girardi, Lou Piniella, and Bob Melvin. Once again congratulations to Mr. Gardenhire and Mr. Black

NL Cy Young

This years top ace in the National League went to Roy Halladay. Halladay is one of the few pitchers in MLB history to win a Cy Young in both the National and American League. In 2nd was Adam Wainwright and 3rd was Ubaldo Jimenez. Halladay racked up all 32 First place votes but who wouldn't vote him #1.

Halladay pitched a no hitter, and a perfect game this season, once in his first postseason start ever. This guy is the most insane pitcher i have ever seen. As a Yankees fan, i was very happy when i heard he was moving out of our League so it would be much easier every time we faced the Blue Jays

Halladay posted a 21-10 Record with a 2.44 ERA, which with a solid run support should win him any game. Halladay also had 219 Strikeouts in 250 innings. Halladay continued to pitch well not only in the regular season but also in the postseason where he pitched a no hitter and had a 2-1 record in 3 starts with 20 strikeouts and a 2.45 ERA which is almost identical to his regular season ERA

Tomorrow, the AL Cy Young award will be announced and it will most likely be CC Sabathia or Felix Hernandez

NL Rookie Of The Year

For the National League, this years Rookie of the Year was Giants Catcher, Buster Posey. Posey won this award a little easier than Feliz racking up 7 more points but yet both were pretty clear decisions. Posey provided a lot to the offense that won the World Series this Year, the San Francisco Giants. In 2nd was Jason Heyward and 3rd was Jaime Garcia

This Year, Posey slugged in 18 Home Runs and ran in 68 men this year for the Giants. He batted .305 this year which is good for any player. The surprising thing about Posey is that he actually got called up very late May because the Giants old Catcher, Bengie Molina was traded to the Rangers who they would later play in the World Series

Posey is from Georgia and is only 23 Years of age. He played his college ball at Florida State and before playing in the Majors, he was destroying Minor League competition. In the postseason his stats slowed down a little but that happens to everyone. Posey has the potential to be one of the great catchers in the league and could be the next Joe Mauer if he keeps up offensively and defensively.

AL Rookie Of The Year

This years Rookie Of The Year for the American League was Texas Rangers Right Handed Closer, Neftali Feliz. Feliz definitely earned this year pitching phenomenally well in the bullpen this year. In 2nd Place came Tigers Outfielder Austin Jackson who hit pretty well but still did not compare to Feliz this season

He posted a 4-3 record and 40 saves in around 70 innings of pitching. They used him in most playoff games to finish off batters in the 9th. Feliz also had a 2.73 ERA which is pretty good. Feliz ranked 3rd in the AL in saves out of 14 teams

Feliz is only 22 Years old and is from the Dominican Republic. Also he is not even getting payed half a million dollars. His salary this year was $410,000. Feliz stands at 6'3 which is pretty tall and thats how he gets most of his speed in his fastball which is his most dominant pitch.

With Feliz' young age we might be seeing his name come up a lot in future years as he is already a dominant player at his position today.

College Football Week 11 Recap

Another week in college football has gone by:

Teams in the top 25 that lost:
13. Iowa vs Northwestern
14. Utah vs Notre Dame
18. Arizona vs USC
19. Mississippi State vs Alabama
23. Florida vs South Carolina
24. Kansas State vs Mizzou
25. UCF vs Southern Mississippi

Top 3 Performances:
1. Wisconsin Badgers- Anyone who puts up 83 Points in a game deserves credit especially without their starting running back John Clay
2. Arkansas QB Ryan Mallet- threw for 215 Yards and 5 touchdowns in route to crush  Utep by 37
3. South Carolina RB- Marcus Lattimore- He ran for 215 Yards and 3 touchdowns in a winning effort against Florida to clinch the SEC division

Top 3 Disappointments:
1. Indiana Hoosiers- When you give up 83 points in a game that is only 60 minutes that says something. By the end of the 3rd Wisco had all 3rd and 4th strings in and countinued to score
2. Oregon, Auburn, TCU- All these team won very close games all to unranked teams. If they want to stay in the top 3 they should all be winning by bigger margins
3. Utah Utes- From the beginning i knew this team was full of pretenders and their really showing it off with back to back losses. Shows how weak the MWC is and with this loss totally cancels out TCU's win over them because it shows how bad they are

Game of the Week: Oregon vs California: 15-13 Oregon
This game was the closest game Oregon had to play all year, and they scored the least amount of points in doing so. Oregon was up 2 when Cal's kicker missed a field goal in the last 2 minutes. If converted that Field Goal might had won California the game due to how bad Oregon has played. Look for an upset in the future in any of the top 5 spots

Top 5 Upcoming Games:
1. Ohio State vs Iowa
2. Wisconsin vs Michigan
3. Stanford vs California
4. Nebraska vs Texas A&M
5. Miami vs Va. Tech

Fire in Dallas

On Monday, Jerry Jones, Owner of the Dallas Cowboys finally had enough with his teams performance and decided to fire Head Coach Wade Phillips

This firing comes after the 1-7 start for the Cowboys, which almost guarantees no post season. The Cowboys were predicted by some to win the division which could be arguably the best in the NFL

Heres why it is Phillips fault for the teams success: The Cowboys have an awful rush game. Although they have three solid running backs in Barber, Jones, and Choice, Phillip's play call is so run heavy that it isn't balanced enough to support the team. Another reason to blame Phillips is the Defense. Phillips was also the DC of the Cowboys and has led the to the 24th best defense in the league. That is also the 8th worst. Names like DeMarcus Ware, and Terrance Newman have not even been in talks this year because other teams are averaging 28 points a game on the Cowboys.

This is why is may not be Wade's fault: The Cowboys have been playing the last few games without probowler, and leader of the offense Tony Romo. Though before the injury the still were not doing to well. Also another reason is the strength of schedule. The Giants Eagles and Redskins are all the other teams in the division and all have great records and teams that all could make the playoffs. Also 5 of their losses have come from games that they lost by only 1 possession. The other losses being the blowouts by the Jags and the Packers

Whose next in line? Well many signs point that current Offensive Coordinator, Jason Garrett. Garrett has matured Tony Romo and has good chemistry with the team. The only problem here might be the defense which he has little experience with, and the Cowboys do need to fix up the Defense, because Phillips was also the Defensive Coordinator. Another option the might look into are Bill Cowher, Mike Martz, or Dennis Green
